It is actually by Blaise Pascal, a French mathematician, physicist, inventor and writer.

It is a compilation of a series of eighteen letters written by Pascal.

This quotation comes from the number 16th letter found this book. It was a letter he wrote to To The Reverend Fathers, The Jesuits, December 4, 1656.

The original line in French is:

Je n’ai fait celle-ci plus longue que parce que je n’ai pas eu le loisir de la faire plus courte.”
