Lana Turner Did Not Lose A Good Earring

Lana Turner did not lose a good earring, or rather she did not say or write this quote:

I would rather lose a good earring than be caught without make-up.

What I am implying, is I think this is a misquote.

It is NOT by Lana Turner.

But it seems every one is attributing this quotation to the late sexy screen icon Lana Turner.

You can find this quote credited to Lana Turner in books, magazines, quotation sites and even merchandise.

But no one has mentioned the authentic source of this “I would rather lose a good earring than be caught without make-up” line.

Lana Turner did not lose a good earring

Lana Turner Did Not Lose A Good Earring

So far, I managed to track down this statement from Lana Turner’s daughter Cheryl Crane‘s 1988 memoir, “Detour: A Hollywood Story“.

It seems this quote is taken from what Cheryl Crane talked about her mother Lana Turner in this New York Times Best Seller.

The line is:

She still worked hard at glamour. At the age of thirty-eight, she’d rather lose a good earring than be caught without makeup, and she still resolutely discouraged photos that hinted at her fondness for vodka.

(Detour A Hollywood Story By Cheryl Crane, New York: Arbor House Pub Co, 1988, P. 5) source

You can see it is Cheryl Crane who wrote this famous line in her book, about her glamorous mother Lana Turner.

It is NOT Lana Turner herself who uttered or wrote this “losing a good earring than be caught without make-up.”

I think this quote is wrongly-attributed to Lana Turner.

Apparently, the blonde bombshell Lana Turner did not lose a good earring or caught without make-up.

So remember, Lana Turner did not lose a good earring and that’s most probably a misquote.
