“If you can’t find a way, make one”.
When you meet any obstacle or resistance, don’t just give up or compromise easily. You got to hold on steadfastly to your belief. Do not let critics or skeptics change your mind. Change theirs instead.
As we all know, anything can happen will happen. Even you are very sure that you are on the right track, things can still unexpectedly go wrong. Accept the fact that life is never been one smooth ride. To achieve your goals or dreams in life, it takes persistence and resolve. Do not get disillusioned or disappointed each time, you encounter any setback that gets into your way.
It is essential to plan for success and at the same time be prepared for unforeseen circumstances. It is no surprise that anything can happen differently than you planned and hoped for. You got to anticipate and be well-prepared to handle and overcome negative situations that are sure to crop up in life at any time.
The Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, a stoic, wrote in his book Meditations: “Our actions may be impeded, but there can be no impeding our intentions or dispositions. Because we can accommodate and adapt. The mind adapts and converts to its own purposes the obstacle to our acting. The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.”
What he meant is those stumbling blocks that hold us back from realizing our goals can be used to our advantage. And in some circumstances, these restrictions may even be essential to us to achieve our goals.
At times, the problem or setback which we have is actually a benefit, rather than a problem. It is because when we face a hindrance, our mind will seek some other ways to overcome it. In other words, the obstacle motivates us to pursue an alternative path which we might not think of it before. And this other option could turn out to be even a better solution to the problem.
If we think deeper, sometimes, the actual problem is not the obstacle in front of us, but it could be something inside of us. Our own weaknesses. They could be our fear, uncertainty or even pride.
Heard of the simple life quote, “one door closes, another one opens‘? Strangely, at times, benefits and opportunities do arise when we never expected it. They could turn out to be even better choices and solutions to our problems.
“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired and success achieved”. This is what author and political activist Helen Keller said. You can turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones during difficult times.
When we have to face a strong enemy, then we have to become strong ourselves. Yes, it is true, adversity makes us wiser and stronger. Remember there is always a way out or another route to get to where you need to go. No doubt setbacks or problems are always expected and they are never permanent.
