Quotes about being happy always remind me to see the lighter side of life. In psychology a definition of happiness covers three main elements.
Happy Moments Quotes
Feeling good – pleasure or a feeling of peace or contentment. Thoughts – looking back over your life and being generally satisfied with what has passed and what has yet to pass. Not feeling bad – feeling bad obviously detracts from happiness.
The problem is most of us, happiness is conditional. For instance, we would think or say that if I can get a higher-paying job, win the heart of our dream partner, or get to live in a flashy lifestyle, then I will be happy.
While we are busy dreaming or waiting for them to ‘be happy’, we sort of postpone our happiness.
It’s a kind of silly thought, but that’s what most of us are doing. We see finding happiness as a goal to be achieved in some future moment, when conditions are met.
The truth is if all the above mentioned do materialize, it is generally short-lived. Before long, we find there is other aspects of life, we still need to change or fix.
In other words, we will be chasing an illusive dream. Remember Henry David Thoreau’s quote: “Happiness is like a butterfly: the more you chase it, the more it will elude you, but if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your shoulder.”
Happiness Is A Choice Not A Result
So instead of keep pursuing or waiting for happiness, we should learn be how to be happy, happier right now, regardless of what is happening in our lives presently.
Basically, happiness is all in our mindset. We can choose or decide to be happy at any time of our life. We should consistently and consciously choose to be in the state of happiness.
Psychologist Tom G. Stevens, Ph.D., who wrote the book “You Can Choose to Be Happy :Rise Above Anxiety”, Anger, and Depression“, we all should take advantage of opportunities to learn how to be happy.
We can reprogram our beliefs and values. Purposely choose to be in the company of positive people to increase your probability of happiness. We can become the happiest and grow the most when we make truth and personal growth our key values.
In short, we have the free will to live a life of joy.
